Moving Child Care Forward
Dear Parents:
You have many worries when taking care of your child. We believe that finding a quality Child Care Center that is reasonably priced should not be one of them.
We have all noticed that finding quality child care with meaningful and effective early education is increasingly difficult. Even more difficult is finding such care which is affordable.
There are many reason for this. First, most child care centers are owned and run by individuals who have no training in business operations (other than the larger operators) – thus making operational processes inefficient and expensive. Second, there is an inherently high turnover of staff in this industry. Mostly, this industry is a way station for those headed to the public school system or other careers. This high turnover makes it more expensive to run since recruiting, training, retaining new staff is expensive. Third, this is a very highly regulated industry (as it should be). However, there are many regulations that could be improved, eliminated, or made more flexible without affecting the quality of care. Fourth, there is no support system from regulators and legislators to enact a substitute teacher system like that in public schools.
There are, of course, many other issues but the above-mentioned are the main ones. Our goal is to develop and provide tools and insights that will make this industry more efficient, more educational, and more affordable. This will be a work in progress for a long time and we will start by tackling some of these issues one at a time.
